Manufacturer Description

They say a picture is worth a thousand words, but for catalog and online retailers, eBay power sellers and product manufacturers, a good product photo can be worth much, much more. In fact, a good photo is arguably the single most important element in selling your product. If a customer cannot touch the products you are selling, they must rely on your photos, and your photos must accurately communicate value that they will be willing to pay for. Studies have actually shown that customers are often willing to pay more for products with attractive, professional quality photos because it engenders a type of trust between them and the seller. Conversely, poor product photos tend to create just the opposite feeling and can turn potential customers away.

MyStudio products are designed to provide a high quality, professional photo solution at an affordable price; one that can be used by amateur and professional photographers alike to create fantastic product photos with a minimum amount of expense and effort.

The MyStudio 20 background features a lightweight, durable standalone cyc with a 90-degree corner and a seamless floor to wall cove radius that runs the entire length of the cyc. This means there are no seams that have to be edited out later, and it provides an easy-to-light infinity background that allows your subject to be photographed in the perfect setting every time. 5000K color-corrected "daylight" continuous lighting system Talk to any good photographer and they will affirm that proper lighting is one of the single most important aspects of taking a good photograph. MyStudio 20 solves this problem for you by including a complete continuous lighting system that takes all the guesswork and expense out of the lighting dilemma.

The customized lighting kit that comes with MyStudio 20 was designed by a professional product photographer with over 25 years of experience in catalog product photography. It features a 15-watt, 5000K ("daylight") color-corrected fluorescent bulb with a CRI of 92 which provides strong, accurate full-spectrum lighting that will bring out the true colors and fine details of your product. The light is installed on an adjustable height aluminum stand and comes with 3 light reflectors (one overhead "ceiling" reflector and two 9" x 12" side bounce cards). Everything but the camera

MyStudio 20 comes with everything you need to produce fantastic, professional quality photographs right out of the box. Until now, the combination of the professional quality infinity background and continuous 5000K lighting that is found in the MyStudio complete tabletop photo studios could only be replicated in a professional photo studio at much greater expense. No longer. In essence, each MyStudio system is a miniature replica of a much larger professional cyclorama photography studio. While large studios certainly have their place and are necessary for larger applications, it can cost tens of thousands of dollars or more to build and properly light such a space. The average photographer and online entrepreneur just don’t have that kind of budget, nor do they require such a large studio for the majority of their photographic needs. That’s where the MyStudio portable photography studio comes in. At a fraction of the cost, now everyone can take professional quality photos with almost any camera and very little experience. If great looking professional photos would help your business in any way, then you can't afford to not have your own MyStudio system. Just as digital cameras have eliminated the need for film, MyStudio virtually eliminates the need for expensive lighting and studio backgrounds.

MyStudio History

Designed and manufactured in the USA by Pro Cyc, Inc., the MyStudio line of tabletop photo studio products derives its design and inspiration from Pro Cyc’s world leading modular cyclorama studio backgrounds. Since 1987 Pro Cyc has been providing custom cyclorama ("cyc") infinity background solutions which are currently used by virtually every major television network (CNN, NBC, CNBC, ESPN, FOX, etc.), film studios, photographers and videographers worldwide for green screen, blue screen and countless other applications that require an infinity background.

To design MyStudio, Pro Cyc drew on their experience and success at creating seamless infinity backgrounds for the large studio industry and applied the same technology and expertise to this revolutionary line of cyclorama-based tabletop studio products intended for use by both professional photographers and amateurs alike. Add to that a color-corrected 5000K lighting system that was designed by a professional product photographer with over 25 years of experience and the result is line of tabletop studio products that deliver unparalleled results at an affordable price. The best feature of all, however, is that virtually anyone with a standard digital camera can take fantastic photos, because with MyStudio the barrier to professional quality photos has just been erased.

Finally, great product images with little effort!

I've been selling on Ebay since 1998 and have tried just about every photo tent, light cube, paper background and everything in between to help me take great photos of my products, and I have ALWAYS been disappointed. I was a bit skeptical at first with MyStudio because the price seemed a bit high, but out of desperation I bit the bullet and bought one and I am so glad I did! I can honestly say that my MyStudio is possibly the single most important piece of photo equipment I own. It doesn't seem to matter which camera I use (I have an old Canon Powershot and also a Nikon D50), the photos I get are clean and crisp and really make my items pop.

It really can be used by just about anyone and if you sell anything on Ebay or anywhere else online and take your own photos, you would be insane not to have a MyStudio. I have literally bought things on Ebay that I could tell were good products but had bad photos (as most items on Ebay do). Then when I got the product home I took new photos in the MyStudio and relisted it and got nearly twice as much than what I bought it for. I have done this several times now. This works especially well with collectibles, coins, watches and jewelry where good photos can make a significant difference. Needless to say I have paid for it many times over since I bought it a few months ago.

Final verdict: A GREAT product and a must have for anyone who sells online.

No-Brainer Essential Investment

I just got this kit and am VERY impressed by the quality of the product itself and the quality of the images I am able to produce with it! The kit comes packed very nicely and setup is a breeze. They have included everything but the camera in this kit to produce professional quality images. The two cardboard light reflectors seemed cheesy at first, but are actually quite effective. You'll realize the importance of them when you shoot a reflective object that you don't want to see yourself in! :)

The first shoot I did was with my Fuji point-and-shoot camera. I wanted to see how well a true novice would do with this kit. The images looked good, but the background wasn't pure white. I played around with the white balance and shutter speed settings, but wasn't able to produce an image with a pure white background. However, anyone with basic Photoshop skills can easily achieve their desired results (as I did)in a matter of minutes. Even given this "extra" step, I would strongly recommend this kit to anyone who is wanting to shoot their own images for web and other purposes. This kit will pay for itself over and over again!

I will update this review after I get a chance to shoot with my DSLR. I'm sure my experience will be even better...

REVIEWER BACKGROUND: I've never used any studio equipment before, and am really just starting to get into product photography since I plan to host a garage sale online soon. I used a DSLR with the built-in flash.

PACKAGING/ASSEMBLY:
The product comes disassembled and took me about 20 minutes to put together with a Philips head screwdriver. The instructions are barely sufficient. The photos are (ironically) are not very clear, since they appear to be grainy B&W photocopies. I found the glossy product ad that came with the instructions to be very helpful in understanding how the assembled product was supposed to look, and what the names of each of the pieces were.

Here's a video review that includes assembly: http://www.slashgear.com/pro-cyc-mystudio-20-tabletop-photo-studio-review-0843301/

USE:
Once set up, I followed some of the camera setting tips (1/30, wb at 5000K, no flash) from the instructions and took a few photos. Overall, I was pleased with the output. The whole setup was effective in distributing the light evenly around the focal area. Since I'd never used a studio before, I'd never really noticed how small 20" really is. My mom asked me to photograph a flower arrangement she did, and I was disappointed that it easily cleared the walls of the background...rendering a full shot of the arrangement impossible.

The entire unit is lightweight, and probably could be easily disassembled but doesn't appear to be designed for mobile or infrequent use. I don't shoot that frequently, so I am not looking forward to figuring out how to store the studio. Also, the overall kit machinery was flimsy, so I suppose the selling major point is that this is an all in one package.

FINAL SAY:
If you have a bounce flash for your SLR, I think you could put together your own studio for a lot less. If you have a built-in flash with your camera, and need to quickly and frequently photograph small objects then this is for you.
